Tutoring Match Testimonials

Parents and clients writing about their kids’ progress with Tutoring Match (formerly Learning Core, LLC) tutors.

Christopher did better than I expected on the ISEE. He did very well on reading comprehension and did OK, but not great, on math – no surprise. He did, however, do OK with the geometric concepts/measurement – answered 9 out of 13 questions correctly. As a result, he has been accepted to Rumsey Hall for next year. The coaching that you provided to Christopher in preparation for the ISEE was tremendous. He attacked the test with confidence, recognizing what his strengths and weaknesses were. I think this mind-set helped him tremendously.

As a matter of fact, Christopher has requested I contact you to see if you're available to help him with his math again. He was impressed with the way you explained things to him. Also, my older son, Eric– 9th grade would like to consider having you help him for 1 hour/week with general study and writing skills.

Thanks for the e-mail. My brother Isaac did very well in the SATs; he improved in all areas and his Math was very high! Thank you so much. I have read some testimonials on-line – when we were looking for a tutor and we would be happy to post one online. We are so busy right now with the college applications, FAFSA, etc. and when it slows down I would be happy to go online and post a testimonial. I'm so sorry we didn't get back to you after the SAT results were received -- it's been a bit hectic, but Isaac has been bugging me to send you an e-mail so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw your e-mail! Thank you so much and I will let Isaac know you e-mailed us!

-- Angela, sister and guardian of junior

Based on the practice tests, it seemed the tutoring was helping, and she wasn't overtly nervous on the day of the test because she felt prepared. After the test, but before she got the results, she was thinking she'd like to continue the tutoring with you to strengthen her math, and even said she didn't want to throw away the ISEE/SSAT books so she could use them for practice.

How are you? Greg has received his third college acceptance so far. He's been accepted to Fordham University , Providence College , and UConn so far, with 5 more schools waiting to come in. Greg did well on his SAT's: 650 verbal, 630 math, and 730 writing - we were all very pleased! Your tutoring was very helpful, and I hope to contact you sometime this summer to start with Jenna. She is taking the practice SAT next weekend – she’s in her sophomore year. I want to thank you for all that you did for Greg. He continues to do well in school – currently a 4.5 GPA.

-- Sue, mother of senior at Trumbull High

Good to hear from you. Amy ended up with a 600 verbal and 690 math. She just successfully completed her 1st semester at Trinity College in Hartford CT. She had a great first term and is very happy there. Thank you for your help.

-- Bianca, mother of Greens Farm Academy senior

Thanks, I really appreciate your help and Jan Mitchell is a gem. My daughter loves her and she is very good.
-- Kathy

My only regret is that we didn't find you sooner! As you know, Kat's original SAT scores – before Learning Core – were competitive but she felt there was room for improvement in math. Thanks to Jeanette's support, she felt so much more confident going into the second round. After just 7 weeks, she improved by 30 points. She also went up slightly on her verbal score, simply by meeting with Henry once and getting a few strategic tips. The fact that you were both so kind and willing to come to our house made all the difference. It was always so convenient, low key and stress free. Thanks again and feel free to have anyone call me for a reference.

--Tina, Norwalk

Interestingly enough, John was exactly where he was prior to tutoring and a prep class at school this fall. He ended up overall - 73%. – 71% Jan 06' Since then he has really applied himself with his work and therefore has great recommendations and all B's – one or two +. The counselor at Eaglebrook feels that John is solid and with the consistency of the SSAT scores and grades should fare well going forward. He has applied to - Taft, Westminster , Brooks and Berkshire . He likes Taft and Westminster - YIKES!! Wish us luck! On another note, I understand John’s friend is truly enjoying his Sunday sessions with you. His mom is my dearest friend and I had given them your name.

-- Mary

Sam's Math score improved by 100 points. We were very pleased with the results, your tutoring definitely helped. Thanks for everything.

-- Diana,Trumbull

Thank You! Allison has been great with Nick and I am sure that it will continue to make a difference as he starts high school!

-- Pam

From our end, you were a slam dunk! Kasey related to you immediately and LOVED her lesson. Whatever you did... got her excited and she wants to continue. Please give me a call at your convenience so we can discuss your take on Kasey’s needs. Thanks.

-- Cathy, mother of high school sophomore at West Hill High School

Thanks so much for your help so far. Katherine seems very positive about your sessions, to the point where I'm getting a little worried that she thinks she will take the test in October and miraculously go up a 200 points!

--Tina, mother of Staples High School senior

Just a quick note to say hello and update you as to Christen's progress. She applied to 7 colleges last fall and was accepted at 6! All Southern schools, which was a must by her, and though not accepted at University of Georgia , she had many choices. She started classes at University of South Carolina on August 18th and loves it! Even Statistics!

If you remember, our main concern was to improve her math as writing had always been a strength. She took the SAT's twice last fall... English score never varied more than a few points, and total score in math surpassed the English score. I have two more... a junior and sophomore that when the time is right, we'll be in touch.

-- Peggy, mother of graduate at Stamford High School

Hilary didn't require a lot of tutoring in Math, but the help you gave her assisted her in understanding some of the fundamentals that she had not picked up in class. This gave her theconfidence she needed. She finished up Pre-Calculus last year with an A- and will be taking AP Calculus in her senior year at the high school! You were there when she needed help, and I would recommend Jeanette to anyone looking for some help.

-- Pamela, mother of senior at Staples High School

Yes, she's thrilled she improved her math scores that much. She's planning to some self-study before taking the SATs again in Oct. and would like to get her English scores up. She also got 5 in her AP History class which she didn't expect. We're proud of her and very thankful for all your help getting her up to study snuff. It probably won't be long before we're contacting you about daughter number 2 who starts 9th grade this year.

-- Brian, father of high school senior in Redding

My husband and I were just talking about you. We would love for you to help Chelsea with SAT prep. Alex is doing great at the University of Delaware. She is working hard but enjoying it. You did a great job with her! Thanks.

-- Claudia

Blake is doing really well at The Gunnery. He adjusted to his new situation immediately...I wish I was able to do the same. The first week was extremely difficult for me, but Blake moved forward without reservation. He joined the crew team and has won a silver medal for his divisionat the last regatta. We see him often with his rowing; almost every weekend.

I am happy to say that Blake is also studying at least two hours every evening – required. His indicator grades, which are verbalfrom his freshmen advisor, are putting him in honors. He is definitely trying very hard... that has been an adjustment.

Henry, thank you for the time and continued effort in working with Blake. The time you spent with him has certainly helped him adjust to this new academic environment. We will definitely keep in touch and most certainly look toward your assistance with the SAT's.

-- Shelly

Your prices are very competitive, since your tutors do go to the student’s home. Esther is doing well this year – she is taking pre-calculus and chemistry, which seem to be more intuitive for her – or maybe she just has better teachers… The tutors she worked with were all good; I think the key is finding someone that is a good match for the student’s learning style. Thanks for all your help.

It has been quite a while since we last communicated--I hope your business is prospering! As you know, Jeanette Chagaris tutored Annie on her calculus these past 2 years. While Annie has always been strong in math, she did struggle a bit with calculus and called on Jeannette quite a few times, often at the last minute before an exam. I know Jeannette was always very accommodating and flexible and was able to help Annie with her questions. Annie always found the sessions helpful--Jeanette knew the materials and knew how to get the concepts across well. Annie did very well at Greenwich High School , graduating in June as the salutatorian in a class of 600. She is heading off to Dartmouth in a few weeks to begin her freshman year.
I'm very glad that Bill Morse gave us your name several years ago!

-- Hsiao-lien

Well, thanks for asking about Julia. She is doing very well. She is starting her sophomore year at Syracuse U where she is studying Communication Design – similar to Graphic Design, but with a broader application. She made the Dean's list last semester, so we are very pleased.

We were 100% happy with your service and think that Jeannette is the absolute BEST. She met with Julia twice specifically to focus on the strategies for taking the Math SAT. As I recall, the improvement was 70 points. There's no denying, that's an excellent result.

What can I say? Jesse went through high school with a lot of support from you. The work you did together helped to provide him with focus, skills, and direction. Having one-on-one tutoring was exactly what he needed to succeed.

Jesse is in his Junior year at Hamilton College . A school that Jesse considered a "reach", while he was in the process of applying to college. Last semester, Jesse was on the Dean's List. Each semester Jesse is more academically successful. Again, I think the foundation of his skills came with the work he did with you. I know he always looked forward to see you, which was several times a week. Jesse never complained with how much extra work he had to do, but felt grateful for the support.

Two weeks ago Jesse left for a semester abroad in India ! At the moment he is attending a language school studying Hindi in the Himalayan Mountains . He says it's the most beautiful place he's ever seen. What impresses me the most about Jesse is his willingness to challenge himself. Jesse is very organized and focused and able to take on difficult tasks. But what is most delightful about him is his positive attitude and sense of humor.

When he completes this semester in India , he has been accepted to a study aboard program in Sevilla for the Spring. Jesse is a double major, Religious Studies and Spanish.

Kate is doing very well. She was accepted at Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT and has just begun her freshman year. Her tutoring through Learning Core was very helpful!

Sara will be starting high school next week so we may find that we will need some tutoring once she gets settled into her classes. I am – at this point interested in finding out if you know any tutors that work on verbal skills. Sara has a particularly difficult time articulating her thoughts succinctly and, of course, like most teenagers she throws in an inordinate amount of “like” and “you knows”. Let me know if you have anyone that could help her with her verbal skills.

-- Nancy

We can happily say that Ryan increased his Verbal score from 610 to 670 after working with you and wound up with a 720 on the Math. We were delighted that he was accepted into 7 of the 8 schools he applied to.

He was accepted into the aeronautical programs at University of Michigan , Lehigh, Penn State , Bucknell, Villanova and Holy Cross. No luck at Notre Dame, we're not so fond of the fighting Irish any more. Yet we were soon to discover that he changed his mind on engineering and now we're busy getting ready to send Ryan off to Boston College – no aeronautics here go figure... Needless to say he is very excited and feels quite comfortable returning to Boston . I'm quite happy about the 2 hour drive to Chestnut Hill instead of the 13 hour one to Michigan . As you can imagine we are very proud of him and are happy to send him on his way.

We'll be happy to refer Learning Core to anyone who asks after all that's how we were put in touch with you.

-- Lisa

Jeanette was excellent, without her assistance, I would not have been able to pass Intermediate Algebra, a required course for the degree I am currently pursuing. Thank you again Jeanette.

-- Tony

Zachary greatly benefited from his tutoring experience. The one-on-one time spent with you enabled him to grasp math concepts that he had trouble with in a traditional classroom environment. I am sure Zachary achieved better test scores as a result of tutor times. You were reliable, timely and always courteous with our appointments.

With Paula's help Nick finished the year much better than he started it!! One of my calls this week was to you and Paula to set up her first meeting with Nick. He is taking pre-calc, and we want to start out on the right foot. Perhaps she could come in the middle of next week to get a feel for how the class is going. Thanks to you and Paula for all your work.

-- Jennifer

We have been very pleased with the Learning Core tutors and Ashley's progress. The tutor's instruction was very good and they all truly cared about Ashley's progress. Additionally, they were very flexible to adapt to Ashley's test schedules and accommodate her needs.

-- Elizabeth

I want to thank Learning Core for the remarkable tutors that were able to help Claudia this year with a very taxing work load. Assigned honors for math, French, and English, Claudia quickly became overwhelmed. I was aware of Learning Core through a friend and teacher, Sue. Your tutors, Jeannette and Samah, were more than up to the task. They were compassionate, flexible, and prepared. The combination of humor, top skills, and focus were perfect for my daughter and helped her digest the material and feel positive about her ability. When the first person found to tutor French was not a good fit, Learning Core was quick to find someone with whom we will no doubt use throughout high school. Thank you for the service you provided my daughter.

-- Linda

Our experience with Jeanette, our math tutor, was wonderful. She was very accommodating to our needs. When we needed her more than once a week, because of an impending test, she was always available. Janette was very helpful each week. She gave Richard the math instruction that he never received properly in school. Now Richard is going to high school - we hope with a more component math teacher. However, if the need arises for supplementary math lessons, we shall be sure to contact Jeanette for her teaching services.

-- Ruth

We do not have much experience with Adam so far, but dealing with your organization has been a good experience. I am very pleased about Adam and his background, and demeanor. I think we will have a good semester, and beyond, with him.

-- Jon

Thank you for bringing us Savannah . She was wonderful and did a terrific job! Thanks so much!! We are set with Alex for now but on Andrew we may need some more help for his reading as the year progresses.

-- Karen

Yes, thank you for helping Sam have the kind of year he had last year! We were very pleased with Matt and you were all so helpful in making that connection. Thanks, again!

-- Jen

I have rarely met anyone in any field who so exhibited the combination of skill and sensitivity that is the hallmark of Matt's work.

Guess what? Good news... Julia got an A in math. Only 2 kids in her classgot As. We know it is due to your fine tutoring skills. Oh, I just realized you saw her on Sat and she probably told you. Anyway, I wanted to pass on my personal thanks.

-- Jennifer, mother of high school student

I just thought I would let you know that Julia was really happy with the first session and working with you. She told me that today in class they covered

Thank you and Jeanette for all your help and kindness to Charlie during the past year. As you may know she is thrilled to have been offered a place at BU under the early decision process. Your help was pivotal in this success. We wish you both good wishes for 2003 and will be in touch with Jeanette shortly.

-- Claire and Charlie

I want to tell you how incredibly satisfied we are with Jeanette. Not only did N. improve her SAT math score by 90 points after Jeanette's help, she continues to improve at math under her guidance. Jeanette makes the lesson's fun and explains concepts in a way that N understands them. She has gone from disliking math to enjoying it and looks forward to Jeanette's visit every week. Besides being a wonderful teacher, Jeanette is an intelligent, likable individual who seems capable of getting along with people of all ages. Thanks again for bringing us together!

-- Susan, mother of student at Old Greenwich High School

I will be in touch within the next few days with her schedule. Thanks again, and, by the way, Tasch loves Jeanette [as her math tutor],and we are very impressed with her as well.
