How are rates
determined?
Hourly rates for In-home and online tutoring are set by the tutors
and can be found in each tutor's profile. Most tutors offer a range
of rates, discounts or package deals to accomodate a variety of
requests. Tutoring Match does not charge parents or students any
additional fee for its services.
What is a tutor
bid?
A bid is the price a tutor is willing to offer for his or her
services for a specific request. It is usually an hourly rate and
will fall between a tutor's minimum and maximum rates as indicated
at the top of his or her profile. Be aware that many tutors offer
Payment Options (reduced rates and package deals)
as part of their bid.
May I request more than one tutor to find out
whose bid and availability I like the most?
Yes, definitely. You may ask as many tutors to bid on your request
as you would like. In fact, we encourage you to do so because not
only will it save you time, but some tutors may not give you the
bid you are looking for or may not be available at the times you
are requesting. Tutors should respond within a few hours so you
should be able to determine the best fit a lot faster than if you
chose one tutor at a time. Make sure you don't accept all of the
bids, unless of course, you want to speak with all the tutors.
Also, if you want, call us and we can help you select those that
fit your criteria the best. Click here to Find a Tutor.
What happens if I
receive more than one bid?
When you receive more than one bid, only accept the ones that you
feel best fits your budget. Your acceptance of a tutor's bid
will generate an email that instructs the tutor to contact you to
discuss your specific request for tutoring and schedule a time for
the first session. Please decline all those bids you don't
accept.
How do I find out
what a tutor actually charges for my request?
When you request a tutor(s), he, she or they will either accept or
decline your request. When I tutor accepts your request, you will
receive an email directing you back to your Tutoring Match account
where you will view the tutor's or tutors' bid(s).
How are fees set?
Why do some tutors offer a range (a minimum and maximum) of
rates?
Tutors decide what to charge clients, and their fees are based
upon their skill levels, experience and education. Special tutors
in the areas of advanced math, science, history, foreign language
and test preparation for standardized tests often command the
highest fees. In-home tutors also set their fees and fee range
based on the subject matter and preparation as well as the distance
and time to tutorials.
Do Tutoring Match's
tutors offer the same fee they charge privately?
This is totally up to the tutor to decide. Because Tutoring Match
wants to stay competitive and not be undercut, Tutoring Match
offers tutors numerous 70+ benefits while its tutors take 80% of
the fee they charge.
Who do I pay for
tutoring ?
In-home tutorial services are invoiced, charged and emailed on a
monthly basis at the end of each calendar month to the credit card
on file or with a personal check. While tutors set their fees, they
do not collect any service fees directly. All payments go through
Tutoring Match. Any billing questions should be referred to Maribel
Galindo, our bookkeeper.
Can I pay using any
method other than credit card?
Yes, you can pay by check, but we ask that a valid credit card be
kept on file before any tutoring can begin.
How will I pay for
tutoring?
If paying for tutoring will present an undue hardship or strain on
your financial situation, some of our tutors offer extended payment
plans or sliding scales. To qualify, you must notify Tutoring Match
to request assistance and demonstrate, document and/or explain your
circumstances so Tutoring match and the tutor can assess your
situation to determine how best to proceed with payments.
What is a
"NO-RISK" first session? What is your Satisfaction
Guarenteed?
To test chemistry between tutor and tutee, most of our tutors
offer a "No-Risk" first session (usually a little less than an
hour). What this means is that if you don't receive the assistance
you want and need during the first session, for whatever reason, we
do not charge a fee. If the student and the tutor have chemistry
and they "click", then we charge for that first session and all
subsequent sessions.
Do you offer
introductory free sessions?
Sometimes a tutor may offer that a free session or two, but it is
totally dependent upon the tutor as he or she is an independent
contractor. Sometimes in the spring Tutoring Match offers a
Friday-Free-For-All with free tutoring with tutor volunteers.
Tutoring Match offers the "No-Risk" first session (as mentioned
above) for in-home tutoring which is only free if a client does not
continue after that first hour. If the client wants to continue
after the first hour, he or she has agreed to pay for the first
session.
Do I pay for an
initial interview or telephone conference with a
tutor?
No, we do not charge for that time.
Are there any
registration fees or additional costs?
Absolutely not; you pay only the hourly rate for the tutoring
services you receive.
If my child
accidentally misses a scheduled session, will I be
charged?
Yes. We strongly encourage students to arrive on-time for
scheduled sessions. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
I have other children
who need tutoring; do you offer discounts?
Some tutors will offer a lower rate for a second hour or a second
child. Some offer package plans. We encourage tutors to provide
discounts when they tutor family members.
