How it Works (for Parents and Students):

Choose one of the following ways to find a Tutoring Match:

1. Click the puzzle piece. Find a Tutor from our database. Search Tips.

2. Use our Map; indicate your zip code, subject area, then click Update.

3. Post a request on our Bulletin Board so tutors can select you.

4. Contact us, and have us select a tutor for you. How we screen tutors.

What might help your search:

  • Search on a few fields at once. (Too many entered fields limit your tutor choices)
  • Describe and submit your tutorial request with as much detail as possible.
  • Sort your search by name, experience or fee range to narrow your choices.
  • Get comparative bids; select as many tutors as you like.
  • Select numerous tutors to discover their level of interest, availability, fee range and fee options for your particular request.
  • From those tutors who respond to your request, you can accept or decline their bids.
  • If you accept a tutor's bid, then that tutor will contact you shortly to arrange a first "risk-free" session at a time and location that is convenient to you.
  • Our tutors are independent contractors who have agreed to keep their fees at the same rates they charge students privately!
  • This process only takes 5-10 minutes and doesn't cost you anything.

How tutors become part of our network:

Phone Interview - When potential tutors initially contact us by phone, we explain how tutors join our network and what they need to do to be considered. We ask them to send proof of degree status, certification, letters of recommendation, and references. We also explain our high standards and expectations for tutors who work with us.

Collect Information - For each tutor, we collect and record his or her personal data, qualifications, and achievements. We assess his or her stated experience, education level, and subject area and then interview each candidate.

Personal Interview - We ask questions designed to determine a tutor’s goals, level of commitment, levels of interest in working one-on-one in-home, online or over the phone, and availability. During the interview we get an idea of a tutor's personality and teaching/tutoring style/approach, which is crucial to the matchmaking process. We also collect proof of degree status, certification, letters of recommendation, references and testimonials.

References and Background Checks - We then contact each reference and ask for a forthright evaluation of a candidate's abilities, desire to teach, and enthusiasm for the job, timeliness, and communication skills. We accept no less than three references, but will contact all references given to us.

Signed Agreement - When we are satisfied that we have found the right tutor to add to our roster, the tutor signs an agreement with us as an independent contractor. The contract letter spells out all of our mutual responsibilities and the tutor’s responsibilities toward the student and client. We review and provide each tutor with guidelines and procedures for various situations. Before we place a tutor, he or she creates an online profile so clients can view pertinent information about him or her.

Fees - Though all tutors choose their own fees, they have contracted with us to charge no higher than what they charge privately. In other words, we guarantee that the bid that you receive from a tutorial request is the same fee that tutor would charge for comparable tutorials outside of Tutoring Match. TM does not charge additional fees for its service.

Tutorials - When our tutor arrives at your house, he or she is ready to assist you and/or your child.
