How tutors become part of Tutoring Match's network:

Application - When potential tutors apply to Tutoring Match, we ask them to create an initial profile on our website, send us a resume, proof of degree status, certification, letters of recommendation, testimonials and at least 3 references from past or present parents and employers.

Collect Information - From each tutor, we request identification, and proof of qualifications, certifications and achievements. Each tutor sends us his or her resume and at least 3 references. We assess his or her stated experience, education level, and subject area, and then interview each candidate (in person, over the phone or using Skype).

Personal Interview - We ask questions designed to determine a tutor’s goals, level of commitment, levels of interest in working one-on-one in-home, online or over the phone, and availability. During the interview, we get an idea of a tutor's personality, teaching/tutoring style/approach and commitment which are crucial to the match-making process. We also explain our high standards and expectations for tutors who work with us.

References and Background Checks - If we have some questions about a tutor's application, we then contact his or her references to ask for a forthright evaluation of a candidate's abilities, effectiveness, desire to teach, and enthusiasm for the job, punctuality, and communication skills. If a tutor's references are unsatisfactory, we do not approve him or her for our network.

Signed Agreement - When we are satisfied that we have found the right tutor to add to our roster, the tutor signs an agreement with us as an independent contractor. The contract letter spells out all of our mutual responsibilities when tutoring a student.

Completed Profile - Before we will place a tutor with a student, a tutor will have completed a professional online profile with photo, fee range, narrative, background information, areas of expertise, resume, testimonials, geographical range, availability, payment options and explanations...and possibly a personal video.

Fees - The fee you see is what you pay! Though all tutors choose their own fees, they have contracted with us to charge no higher than what they charge privately. In other words, we guarantee that the bid that you receive from a tutorial request is the same fee that that tutor would charge for comparable tutorials outside of Tutoring Match. TM does not charge parents or students additional fees for its service. See Fees and Payments under Parent FAQs.

Tutorials - We review and provide each tutor with guidelines and procedures for various situations. When a TM tutor arrives at your house, he or she is ready to assist you and/or your child.
